 2007 Womens Retreat Recap

Fifty-six women from throughout the Southeast Conference attended the Southeast Conference Women Ministries Retreat. This year's theme was "Trouble The Water: Women in compassion, mercy and justice ministries." The theme was taken from John 5: 1 - 13.

The retreat began on Friday, October 26 and ended on Sunday, October 28, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. The keynote speaker was Rev. Judy Swanberg, chaplain of Covenant Village of Florida and former associate superintendent of the East Coast Conference. Our seminar faciliator was Rev. Velda Love, interium director Center for Justice Ministries, North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. Our worship leader was Sis. Joyce Sutton, a graduate of Boston Conservatory of Music.

Friday the focus was on compassion ministries and the compassion experience of foot washing was a memorable moment for all.

Saturday morning our focus was on mercy ministries and the mercy experience of naming the rocks that hold us back in areas of forgiveness and grace formed a beautiful cross.

Saturday afternoon the tours were filled with women who experienced the Dr. Martin Luther King Visitor's Center CIvil Rights tour, the Wren's Nest historical tour, the Shop 'Till You Drop Mall tour or those who choose to simply relax in their rooms for the afternoon.

Saturday evening the focus was on justice ministries. The women experienced "Troubling the Waters" as a step of commitment into the pool.

Here are some comments lifted from the evaluations of the women who attended:

"This conference has changed my life! I'm going out with a deeper sense of and a heart for the Lord's justice, mercy and compassion."

"It was a wonderful conference. I have a lot to go home and process. Thanks for the encouragement and the challenge."

"I felt so much love and compassion from the women who were here."

"I have been awakened to this ministry of compassion and mercy. I will never be the same."

"This conference was probably the most life changing conference I have ever attended."
